About the Role:
The Company is seeking a Vice President, Legislative Strategy to lead its efforts in transforming supervision and advocating for a restorative approach to the criminal justice system. The successful candidate will be the organization's chief legislative strategist, responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive legislative roadmap at the federal, state, and local levels. This role requires a deep understanding of the legislative process, a proven track record in moving legislation, and the ability to build and manage relationships with legislators and other key stakeholders. The VP will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team, including the CEO, to set legislative strategy, advise on risk and opportunities, and ensure a unified external affairs operation in partnership with the Chief Policy Officer and the Community Engagement team. Applicants must have at least 10 years' experience in legislative strategy, government relations, or public affairs, with a focus on moving legislation. Strong organizational leadership skills, exceptional judgment, and the ability to navigate politically sensitive situations are essential. The role also involves team management, budget oversight, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. While not mandatory, experience in criminal justice, civil rights, or social justice advocacy, as well as existing relationships with legislators in priority states, are preferred. The ideal candidate will be adept at coalition-building, have a network of political and legislative allies, and be comfortable engaging with high-profile individuals. The position is based in New York City and requires a significant in-office presence, with some national travel and non-traditional hours during active legislative sessions.
