About the role

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Cardiovascular ICU RN for a Level 1 trauma hospital, requiring TX or compact RN licensure and critical care skills including hemodynamic monitoring and ventilator management.
Requirements:
  • Active TX or compact RN license requiredBLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required, though 3+ years and prior travel experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in a high-acuity, high-volume hospital setting preferred
  • Proficiency with ventilators, pressors, and hemodynamic monitoring (PAC, CVP, arterial lines)
  • Experience with sheaths, IABP, Impella, and CRRT preferred
  • Ability to manage paralyzed and sedated patients using BIS and TOF monitoring
  • Competent in titrating drips such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, dobutamine, milrinone, amiodarone, and cardene
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Responsibilities:
  • Acute care setting in the Cardiovascular ICU (CCU) of a busy Level 1 trauma hospital18-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2, occasionally 1:1Patient population includes heart failure, STEMI, pulmonary emboli, arrhythmias, and MICU overflow
  • Utilizes EPIC EMR for charting12-hour day shifts with every other weekend requiredNo self-scheduling; travelers fill open shifts based on unit needs
  • First to float to similar units requiredNo call or standby requirementsRT available in the ICU 24/7 for ventilator support, though RNs must troubleshoot vents and respond to emergencies like self-extubationRNs interpret their own telemetry strips using HP monitors
  • Charge nurse present each shift, though not always free from patient assignment
  • Minimal patient care assistant support, roughly one aide for all 18 beds
  • Provide critical care nursing to complex cardiovascular and overflow ICU patients
  • Two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Holiday coverage typically required, including days before and after the holiday
  • Dress code includes teal scrub tops and bottoms with solid or coordinating non-terrycloth jackets
  • Daily and monthly parking options available on or off campus, with associated fees
