With limited supervision, conducts physical, microscopic, and chemical analyses on evidence submitted to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) Forensic Sciences Laboratory and provides written reports based on the examiner’s interpretation of results. Employee maintains proficiency in all service areas that they are deemed competent and provides expert testimony in federal, state, and local courts. The purpose of this class is to perform general police duties to ensure the strict enforcement of state and local laws and County ordinances relating to public safety and welfare, and to perform related law enforcement work as required. This class is responsible for professional and technical work in the analysis of evidence submitted to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) Forensic Sciences Laboratory in criminal cases; to assist with other criminal evidence analysis and law enforcement work, and to perform related work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
