About the role
Life Cycle Associates is seeking a Consultant to join its team on a full-time basis. This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with remote work considered for exceptional candidates. The Consultant will support clients through renewable fuel pathway development and certification processes, conduct environmental and life cycle analyses, and prepare technically rigorous, regulator‑ready documentation. The role involves developing and applying advanced life cycle assessment models to evaluate renewable and alternative fuel pathways across multiple regulatory programs. The Consultant will work closely with clients and internal team members to translate complex technical analyses into clear, actionable insights. Responsibilities also include contributing to fuel pathway design, carbon intensity calculations, regulatory submissions, and strategic recommendations to improve environmental performance and compliance outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support fuel pathway development and certification under programs including
- California LCFS, U.S. RFS2, Canadian Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR), and European REDDevelop, modify, and applylife cycle assessment (LCA) models, including GREET-based tools and post‑processors
- Performcarbon intensity (CI) calculationsand prepare supporting documentation for regulatory submissions
- Analyze renewable and alternative fuel production processes (e.g., ethanol, biodiesel, renewable diesel, RNG)
- Prepare clear, defensible technical reports and client‑facing deliverables
- Collaborate directly with clients to interpret results, evaluate compliance strategies, and identify improvement opportunities
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of analytical rigor and documentation quality
- Skills/Experience3–10 years of professional experiencein environmental consulting, renewable fuels, energy systems analysis, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience with fuel certification programs, including LCFS and Canada CFROpenLCA modeling experience preferred
- Solid understanding of renewable and alternative fuel production pathways and associated environmental impacts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical analyses
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑based consulting environment
- Familiarity with environmental policy frameworks, regulatory compliance, and process design
