About the role

Company Overview: Hondo Holdings is a diversified financial services holding company headquartered in Norwalk, Connecticut. The platform brings together complementary businesses across investment management, brokerage, lending, and energy infrastructure, including Hondius Capital Management, an alternative asset manager and registered investment adviser; Zenith Securities, a FINRA-member broker-dealer; Hondo Finance, a specialty lending business; HondoGO, an EV fast-charging developer and operator; and Mercator Power, a battery energy storage developer. Our goal is to build an integrated platform where each business strengthens the others and creates lasting value for clients and partners.
The Opportunity: We are seeking a hands-on, detail-driven accountant to work directly for the CFO of Hondo Holdings. This person will keep the books for the holding company and each of its subsidiaries and operating businesses, with a clear near-term focus on day-to-day throughput: payables, reconciliations, and a faster, cleaner month-end close. We are building our accounting foundation now, so every data point matters. This role is well suited to someone who takes pride in getting the details right, enjoys doing the work directly rather than only reviewing it, and looks for ways to use technology to make the process faster and more accurate. As the platform grows, the scope of the role will grow with it.
Key Responsibilities: •     Accounts Payable and Payments: Process vendor invoices and payments across all entities for CFO review and sign-off, ensuring accurate coding, proper approvals, and complete supporting documentation.•     Reconciliations: Perform timely bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet account reconciliations for each entity, and investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.•     Month-End Close: Drive a timely, well-documented monthly close for the holding company and each subsidiary, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and supporting schedules, and prepare entity-level and consolidated financial statements for CFO review.•     Bookkeeping and Data Integrity: Maintain the general ledgers in Quick Books for Hondo Holdings and each operating entity, ensuring every transaction is coded correctly and consistently across the platform.•     Intercompany Activity: Record and reconcile intercompany transactions, shared-service cost allocations, and management fees, and support eliminations on consolidation.•     Entity-Level Accounting: Support accounting across the platform, including fee revenue and receivables for Hondius Capital Management; books and records for Zenith Securities in coordination with the firm’s Fin Op; loan activity and interest income for Hondo Finance; and capitalized project costs and fixed assets for HondoGO and Mercator Power.•     Cash Reporting: Manage accounts receivable, prepare regular cash reporting, and support cash forecasting.•     Technology and Automation: Use technology to improve speed and accuracy, including bank feeds, accounting system rules and integrations, and well-built Excel tools, and write scripts or automations for repetitive tasks where they add value.•     Audit, Tax, and CFO Support: Prepare schedules and workpapers for external auditors and outside tax preparers, and assist the CFO with budgets, lender and investor reporting, and ad hoc analysis.•     Offshore Team Coordination: Assign and review the work of offshore accounting resources to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency with internal procedures.•     Process and Controls: Help document accounting procedures and internal controls as the function is built out.
Qualifications: •     7–10+ years of hands-on accounting experience, including corporate accounting for a holding company and its subsidiaries or operating businesses.•     Strong, direct experience with accounts payable, reconciliations, and month-end close.•     Experience in financial services strongly preferred, ideally across one or more of investment advisers, broker-dealers, and lending businesses.•     Strong Quick Books skills required; advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, and building clean, reusable workbooks).•     Tech-savvy and comfortable adopting new tools; coding or scripting experience (Python, SQL, VBA, or similar) is a significant plus.•     Working understanding of the income statement and balance sheet and how transactions flow between them; familiarity with U.S. GAAP, multi-entity ledgers, and intercompany accounting.•     Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; CPA and hands-on bookkeeping experience preferred.•     Extreme attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership over the accuracy of the books.•     Trustworthy and discreet with confidential financial information; must be able to pass a background check.•     Solid written and verbal communication skills.•     Comfortable working directly with the CFO in a lean, fast-moving environment.•     Based in Connecticut and able to work from our Norwalk office.
Benefits: •     Competitive base salary and performance-based incentives•     Health and wellness benefits•     401(k) plan•     Paid time off Why Join Us?•     Direct Access: Work side by side with the CFO and senior leadership across every business on the platform.•     Breadth of Exposure: Gain experience across investment management, brokerage, lending, and energy infrastructure in a single role.•     Build Something: Help build the accounting foundation of a growing platform, with scope and responsibility that expand as the business grows. If you are a detail-driven accountant who takes pride in clean books and an on-time close, we encourage you to apply.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
