About the role

Since its beginning, the Avian Conservation Center and The Center for Birds of Prey has relied on Volunteer Staff members to carry out its mission of providing medical treatment for injured birds of prey and shorebirds, presenting educational programs to thousands of people throughout the state, and conducting avian research and field studies that benefit South Carolina and the entire nation. As we go into our busy fall season, we are in need of more Guest Services Volunteers on the team! We ask for a weekly commitment of a 3 - 4 hour shift and are open to the public Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Right now I need coverage on Thursdays 12:30 - 4 and Fridays 12 - 4. Shift times can be flexible to a degree. We also ask that our volunteers attend a Quarterly Training session and participate in one Adopt-a-Highway event each year. Tasks include checking in pre-purchased ticket holders, selling tickets, and managing and selling merchandise. You will be able to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors, school groups and community organizations. You will also have the opportunity to participate in continuing education programs about our collection and exhibits. We encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity. Please e-mail me directly at emily.edwards@avianconservationcenter.org and we can set up a time for orientation/interview!

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
