Job Title: Student - Communications Intern City: Gary Job Description: Job Summary Coates Inc seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to allow the intern’s experience and creativity to shine in various aspects of marketing while working in a fun and professional work environment. The Coates Inc Communications Internship is a professional skills internship to assist the Executive Director in implementing organizational communications and marketing strategies. The Communications Intern will work independently and in a team to fulfill organizational goals and initiatives related to programming, events, and increasing the organization’s social media presence. Start Date: Fall 2026/ Spring 2027 Hours: 5-10 hours/week, including weekly planning meetings with the supervisor Pay: $12.00/hour Qualifications Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram etc. Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications a plus Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Canva, and Photoshop is highly desired. Knowledge of HTML, website content management, and graphic design Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills Genuine enthusiasm for creating compelling marketing materials to support college and careerprogramming Self-starter, good time management, creative, with the ability to communicate in a professional manner Ability to work well independently, and within a team Possess skills at initiating innovative ideas and judging correctly what will appeal to targetaudiences Exceptional writing ability and experience with writing stories Be creative and resourceful Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization’s mission Responsibilities Assist in planning, writing, and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters. Implement an annual communication calendar Update organization website using Godaddy with current events, relevant news, etc. Design event/program fliers, graphics, video and other marketing material Create sponsorship and fundraising literature Update and maintain the organizations social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling and reporting social media metrics and creating goals for success Provide input for creative marketing strategies and social media campaigns Manage editorial and event calendars Manage photo and video content Foster relationships with local media and help draft press releases and reach out for eventmarketing Create online advertisements as needed Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications Bilingual is a plus.
