About the role
FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:Processes and adjudicates Tiers 1, 2 and 4 personnel suitability background investigations and reinvestigations for career and non-career employees, contractors and vendors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Adjudicates personnel suitability investigations and periodic re-investigations for employees, contractors and vendors in adherence with applicable policies, USPS contracts and adjudicative procedures. Ensures all relevant suitability questions have been resolved, all pertinent material and rating factors have been considered, all pertinent laws, rules and regulations have been followed, and appropriate actions have been taken or recommended. Makes adverse decisions in cases requiring an unfavorable determination.2. Prepares requests for additional investigation or subject interviews when suitability issues are not sufficiently resolved to make a determination. In cases of potential adverse action, prepares a written summary of reasons to afford the applicant or employee an opportunity to respond.3. Reviews and evaluates background investigation reports to determine compliance with current federal investigative standards. Contacts appropriate sources (internal and external) to obtain additional information as necessary.4. Works collaboratively in a cross-functional environment. Provides guidance and training to new employees and contractors and makes recommendations to enhance or improve personnel suitability programs.5. Accesses various databases and computer systems, including, federal agency databases to request, extract and/or input confidential/sensitive information and initiate investigative checks.6. Tracks and monitors all assigned background investigation requests and provides periodic status updates to supervisor.7. Answers inquiries verbally and in writing from requestors and management concerning completed and open background investigations.
